African swine fever (ASF) is a contagious disease of domestic and wild pig populations, which has caused a global ASF pandemic impacting the economies of affected countries as well as livelihoods of farmers and rural communities, particularly in resource poor countries. This project will utilise advanced molecular and 'omics' approaches to further understand viral and host factors underlying ASF virus replication and pathogenesis. The project will have access to multi-disciplinary expertise in infectious disease research and access to state-of-the-art high containment facilities (allowing the study of ASF), providing a unique scientific training opportunity in research to advance novel control strategies against a major emerging viral threat.
